Hina Matsuri is known as "The Doll Festival," "Girl's Day," and "The Peach Blossom Festival." It is celebrated each year on March 3rd.
Girls and mothers set up a special display of treasured family dolls in their home. Hina dolls are arranged on red fabric-covered steps, with the ancient Emperor and Empress on top, three princesses next, five musicians below them, two ministers or soldiers next, and finally three court attendants. Doll-sized furniture and food may also be included.
